Ellis Edward Hicks, 70, entered into the loving arms of Jesus during the afternoon hours of Thursday (January 23, 2020). Ellis was born on October 16, 1949 in Sneedville, TN to the late Lewis, Sr. & Louise Charlotte (Riley) Hicks.
Ellis retired from J.P. Stevens Cotton Mill after 27 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Pine View Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, going to flea markets, and spending time with his family and friends; Ellis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Ray Hicks.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 45 years, Dinah Faye Hicks; two daughters, Tara Kerr & husband Bill and Tasha Kennedy & husband Justin; two brothers, Joe Hicks & wife Patty and David Hicks & wife Sandra; two sisters, Sonja Payne & husband Michael and Cathy Huff & husband Ron; half-sister, Nancy “Sue” Johnson;; special sister-in-law, Christie Gillenwater; sister-in-law, Dianne Hicks (wife of Curtis Ray Hicks); eight grandchildren, Jacob Beasley, Brittany Kennedy, Bryon Beasley, Abby Kennedy, Isaiah Kerr, Abby Kerr, Gracie Beasley, and Thena Kerr; one great-grandson, Braxton Mayne; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday (January 27, 2020) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Cavin and Bro. Marvin Eagan officiating. Special memories will be shared by his beloved grandchildren.
Ellis will be laid to rest on Monday (January 27, 2020) at 3 p.m. at Riley Family Cemetery in Sneedville, TN. Family friends will serve as pallbearers .
