

Evelyn Maxine Collings Shamburger passed away June 6, 2016, at the home of her daughter, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born June 3, 1931 in Abingdon, VA, the daughter of Wesley Amos Collings & Gladys Virginia Puckett. She & 10 siblings grew up on a farm in Scott County, VA. She married James Wesley Shamburger on Aug 26, 1950. They made their home in Haughton, LA until 1993 when they moved to Mt. Carmel, TN. He died in 1997. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters, Kathleen Marcum and Ruby Hutton and 2 brothers, James W. Collings and Charles L. Collings. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden and was a member of the Christian Life Center in Kingsport. She moved to Texas in 2010, when her health began to fail. She is survived by her only child, Barbara (Tommy) Potter; 3 grandchildren, Tom (Heather) Potter of Grapevine, TX, Leah (Randall) Sheppard and Ashley Potter, both of Euless, TX; 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 sisters, Cleo Hersman of Cincinnati, OH; Isabell (Darrell) Monroe of Mt. Carmel; Ilene (Ted) Fletcher of Clinchport, VA; Shirley (Leon) Jackson of Kingsport; 2 brothers, Ervin Collings of Church Hill and Lloyd (Judy) Collings of Kingsport; and many nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s research would be appreciated. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 pm, immediately following the visitation, in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Barker officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest with her husband on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
