I will treasure and cherish you always. You can't begin to know the love I have for you. Thank you for taking such great care of me and our amazing children. You've always been a rock for us all. You have been a wonderful role model to so many. Thank you for loving me through out our years together. You will be mine forever and always and my love for you will never end. I believe God made us for each other and I love Him for that. God has my eternal love and gratitude for His son, Jesus, and His perfect plan for us. We will live forever in that perfect place that he has prepared for us. Other than my salvation, you are the most precious, awesome gift that God has given me. He has taken you back to be with Him because He said it was time. You really have made an impact on this earth and have touched and influenced a lot of lives. Having to live the rest of my life on earth without you breaks my heart. I need you by me and with me. The pain I feel from missing you is so intense. I'm so alone without you. Only half of me is here. Our children and grandbabies miss you so much. You would be proud of what an awesome job our children are doing raising our grandchildren. I know that you belong to God and so do I. He is so great. I really hope that when Jesus takes me to see heaven, He will let you come with us too. I would love to see heaven with you and Jesus. His love is immeasurable. Each day, I realize how truly amazing He is. What a Faithful Father he is. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords is taking perfect care of you because you are royalty. When God says it's time, and sends for me, I know I'll be better. I'm looking forward to spending eternity there, where we will sing His praises together. I will see you again and please know that you, my love, will be in my heart forever and always until the end of time. ALL MY LOVE, - Lisa
Matthew - Abraham Lincoln once said, “In the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life your years”
Anyone who knew my father, knows that he had so much life in his years.
He was a loving Father,
He was a loyal husband,
He was a caring poppa,
He was a thoughtful son,
He was a wise brother,
He was a selfless teacher.
He was an Ironman.
He was a devout Christian,
He was the foundation of our family.
He was kindhearted to all, known for his judgment and wisdom, both gentle and strong.
He was a man’s man- a Godly man.
Casey and I could not have had a better father.
Between Casey and I playing baseball, football, track meets, soccer, cross country, I estimate that Dad attended over 400 games over our lifetimes and neither of us can remember him missing a single game.He would take us fishing. I remember days where we caught so many fish that we quit counting, I remember days where we did not even get a bite. On those days, we looked forward to the lunches that Mom had fixed for us. She took such good care of us and Dad knew it. We would listen to John Ward call UT football games while we fished on this old radio. One day while I was on my way to the Boys Club for remote control car race day. I had lost the antenna to the remote for my car and I asked Dad if he could fix it that morning about 10 minutes before we had to leave. Without even thinking about it, Dad took the radio and pair of linesman pliers and cut the antenna off of that radio and installed it on my remote control. Dad could do anything…….and he would do anything for us. I remember going fishing with that radio, with half of the antenna missing after that.
He loved my mother so much. Just last week he told Mom, “You know that you spoil me”. Mom told him that he spoiled her too. They were a team.
He would tell my mom, “You know, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me”. In loving my mother, Dad was teaching us how we should love our spouse. He was a wonderful grandfather. The grandchildren called him Poppa and they all loved him BIG!!! He taught them to drive tractors, boats, and trucks. My mother aka Me-Me would watch my daughter and every day on dad’s way home from work, he would call and ask my mom to put her shoes on and have her ready to go outside. He would not even step foot in the house, he would just open the door and out they would go. Sometimes they would walk, other times they would sit under a big oak tree and pick up acorns and put them in a bowl. Dad and my daughter, Carter, would dance to the Jackson 5 for hours. Dad was teaching me how I should love my children. He loved his mother. Although they were separated by many miles dad really loved her. He looked forward to their visits and he tried to pack as much fun and love into their trips as possible. He would take her on boat rides and trips. He would do whatever he could to help her. Dad was teaching me how to love my mother. We love you mom. He loved his brothers and his sister. He gladly opened his home and his heart to them. I think if you asked any of them, who they talked to when they had a problem that they needed to talk through, they would call Skip.
As many of you know, Dad was training for an IRONMAN in September. He was doing this because he loved the comradery and the friendships that he developed while training. He loved the competition even if it were only with himself. Some people might even say that his competitive nature might have even rubbed off on me. He told me that the training made him feel young. I know a few members of the training club, but I do know that he loved you guys. Thank you for your love and support that you provided for him.
Dad was Christian. This was evident in talking with him and watching how he led is life. Before he dedicated so much of his time to IRONMAN, he had focused his determination on teaching the book of Revelation to his Sunday school class. He worked on this for years. He loved serving God. He loved everyone and really enjoyed helping people. Dad and I coached Upward basketball together and the way Dad taught these little children about Christ was truly inspirational. Dad was teaching me how to love God. When I was a little boy, I thought that he could do anything. I am 32 years old now and that never changed, I always felt that Dad could do anything. I was seeing God through Dad. Dad’s favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I was seeing God through Dad. - Matthew
Casey - I have so many good memories of my dad. One of my favorite memories is of when I was a little girl. My dad would come and wake me up. He'd say, "Hey punkin', you wanna go fishin' today?" I would say yes! He would tell me to put my clothes on and get in the truck. It would be cold out and he would have already started up his truck and have it warm inside. If it wasn't warm yet, he would take his coat off and lay it over me like a blanket. It was warm from where he had had it on. Even though it was just the two of us, I would sit in the middle of the truck next to dad. I would lay my head on his lap and he would rub my hair. His hand seemed as big as my whole head. We would always stop at the same bait shop where we got minnows and he would let me pick two snacks or candies. Then, we would go fishing in the boat. He would cast it over and over. He always let me real the fish in. If I got tired of holding the pole, he would hold it while I played in the minnows till he got one. Then he would let me real it in. On the way home, he would listen to Mary Chapin Carpenter or Alison Kraus and he would play the drums with his hands on the steering wheel. He liked the music loud and the windows down. I loved to go fishing with him.
Another good memory I had is a few years ago we were outside with my dog Riley and his dog Morgie. There was a pile of wood in the backyard. Morgie ran over to it and was sniffing and started barking like crazy. He said that she had found a snake a few weeks before and had done the same thing. I told him that I wanted to see it. He started moving pieces of the wood one at a time. Something came running at his foot and he screamed a high pitched squeal like a little girl and kicked at it. He missed and kicked the wood pile instead. Then I saw the chipmunk run across the yard. It was tiny and cute. I laughed so hard I was crying at the noise that he had made. He came in and took off his shoe. His toes was purple and blue and swollen. He had broken it thinking a snake had come after him. Ha ha! - Casey

He knew I loved the chihuahua jersey. He wore it for me near my bday on our ride cuz he knew I liked it and had chihuahuas. He said yep and when I wear this jersey I mean business. Even if I am the little guy. Lol. Never failed to make me grin."
David Dau - "Last weekend when I got lost on that 80 mile bike ride, as I was heading into Meadowview, i looked up and there was Skip's truck heading out to look for me and make sure I was OK! He told me to get in but I was determined to finish the ride so he drove back to meadowview to make sure I got there and that someone was there to take me home since he knew I got dropped off in the morning! I don't think I have ever met a more caring and considerate person! Truly a gem! Love you man and will dearly miss training with you and sharing hairy man jokes with you!!!"
Steve Stout - "I met Skip during an open water swim at Warriors Path. He was the only other person in the lake and we had a great conversation. Since, I've enjoyed many rides and seeing him at events. On our last ride together we were both flying down a hill. The force of a turn we went into had Skip right against the guardrail leaning his bike as far as he could go and still stay on it. His initial thought was to jump off his bike. After he pulled out of it he looked back and smiled at me to make sure I was ok. We rode on together talking about his knee surgery. I've had problems with my knee and he was encouraging me and making recommendations on how to deal with it. While he spent a lot of time in training like the rest of us do his conversations always went back to his wife/kids/and family. It was a blessing to be around this man."
Sybil – Lisa and family, I’ve never met you but I knew Skip briefly. We shared a few bike rides together and he made a permanent impression on my heart. His love for you – his family – was so strong it was infectious and inspired me to be closer to my own family and lover them in new ways. I’m so sorry for your loss and am so eternally grateful that he shared his lover of you with me. He was a great man whose work is still being done in the world. Love More. That was Skip.

There are people in life that are just fun to be around and you can tell they honestly care about people....your dad was one of those of people. I learned a lot from him and I'll miss him greatly!"
Varinka Franco Williams - "Skip, you will be missed but I'm certain we will see you again. Heaven has a good one today."

Mark Rowe - "I said goodbye to a good man tonight. I only knew Skip for about a year, but he instantly became a friend. He was training for Ironman Chattanooga to raise awareness for the Crohn's and Colitis foundation (a horrible disease that he suffered from). Looking back on our brief friendship, Skip taught me three things... 1. Chase your dreams no matter the obstacles. Skip suffered from a horrible disease that made LIFE difficult, yet he still managed to become an IRONMAN. So I have NO EXCUSE. 2. Enjoy the Journey. Skip had fun throughout all of life. No matter if it was a 100 mile ride or a 20 mile run or volunteering at a local small race, he did it with a huge smile. 3. Be nice to people!!!! Skip was one of the kindest people I know. He was so encouraging and inviting. So in HONOR of Skip I will be manning the Last Aid Station on the Run at Ironman Chattanooga, because after 138 miles (of 140.6), those folks might need a little extra encouragement and a "SKIP" in their step....and I'll be channeling my inner Skip to motivate them to the finish!!!! I'm gonna miss my friend, but I'm sure we will ride together again in Heaven...and it will be even more Glorious than our last ride!!!"
Debi Hasterlik Secor - "Thank you to everyone who came out to remember and honor Skip Dickerson tonight at Barberitos Kingsport, thanks to your generosity over a $1000 was raised in his honor for the Crohns and colitis foundation. A very special thank you to Maggie Kendrick owner of Barberitos for hosting this event and matching the percentage raised from food sales in Skip' s honor. The love shown for Skip this evening was probably the most special thing I have ever seen from any community. You, my friends, are amazing!"
Debi Hasterlik Secor - "Thanks to everyone for coming out to Barberitos tonight to honor Skip Dickerson, friends lined up out the door! Such and amazing sight for one amazing man."

Jim Maitland – "Not a day goes by that I don’t come across something that reminds me of Skip. He had such an impact on me professionally as well as personally. His memory is a joyful one and I thank God for that. I have been very blessed to know Skip at first through his son Matthew, and then through working together for the past 2.5 years. I am thankful for the time I was given to know him for my life has been enriched because of knowing him. Skip was the one who encouraged me to start running. We both ran in my first race, the Blue Plum 5k in 2012, where he told me, "you better take a good look at my front because all you are going to see in the race is my back!" He beat me good and never let me hear the end of it. But he was encouraging at the same time. That was Skip. He never stopped encouraging me in anything I attempted. Skip loved his family dearly - it was hard not to see that. His face lit up whenever he talked about his family. All of us around work even adopted his grandsons' phrase "that's a good story Poppa" whenever he explained things to us (his weapon of choice was the dry-erase board). He was great at explaining electrical related things to non-electrical minds (like myself). He brought it down to "Skippy Level" as he termed it. I and many others learned a lot from him this way. In his last week he told us about his near miss encounters where if certain things didn't happen the way they did he could have lost his life. His comment to these encounters was, "I thanked God for taking care of me. God is keeping me around for some reason. He must have a plan for me." I thought in that moment, "what a great witness to give God all the glory." Skip often witnessed in subtle ways like this. When I heard the news of his passing I reflected on what he told us; "He's keeping me around for some reason." I became confused, until Casey shared the story of "The Saturday" water party. There is no doubt that God orchestrated these happenings to minister to me. I will never forget what Skip said and how that Saturday "was just the best day". It will stay with me forever and shape the way I cherish my own family. I thank Skip and God for that. We often compared Skip to Chuck Norris at work (it was a lot of fun; he got a kick out of it too. We all know he needed that confidence boost! ;-)). My favorite saying was: "Skip Dickerson can pick oranges from an apple tree and make the best lemonade you've ever tasted." I feel this is just a funny way of saying that he was just an all around great guy and could make the best of every situation. We will miss him dearly and I thank God for the time on Earth I have had with him and the memories he has left behind that I will never forget. Our thoughts and prayers are with Skip's friends and family. We love you, Skip."
Sarah Moody - "He was a great man!"

Our family has certainly been. I miss my dad so much, but I know where he is and I know that I will see him again someday. What a blessed assurance that is and what peace beyond all understanding that it gives. If you haven't made Jesus Lord of your life and want to, I would be honored to show you the way."
Penny Vicars - "He was a good man."
Beth Fletcher - "Sweetest service I have ever been to!!! And now it is even sweeter!!!! Our youngest son Weston ask Jesus into his heart last night after we got home!!!! He has been curious for some time now! What a blessing!!! HE is still at work!!!"
Joe Verbal - "I remember when I first met Skip, I called to tell him I had drafted Matt onto our baseball team. Due to a bad experience the year before your dad said he didn't think Matt would even play. I talked him into giving it a shot and not only did I get a good ballplayer, but I got to know your Skip and Lisa. Two wonderful people. The last time I saw Skip he was talking about finally getting his health straightened out, and running the Iron man. I know that he's in a better place and that his health is perfect now, and if we all keep the faith we will see him again."
Aaron Whitley - "I wanted to tell you how great of a man Skip was. I had been training with him daily for a while now and actually swam with him Monday evening before he fell sick. Skip always treated me so well and always was an encouragement even though he was smoking me on the bike. Haha He always had a smile on his face and he always tried to lift the people up around him. He kept saying he wanted to finish Chattanooga so bad but what he didn't realize was he was already an ironman in the hearts of everyone around him. He had so many things coming against him and yet he always surged forward. It would be my pleasure to talk about a man that left such a last impact on me. He left me a note the last time we ran and I will keep it as inspiration as I know Skip would always keep moving forward and not give up."

Andrew Jackson Gibbons - "Skip was one of my favorite people. He always made me smile and was uplifting to talk to. He was also a source of inspiration to me in my "athletic" endeavors."

I can’t tell you the times my mom or my aunt have gotten cards & little packages in the mail from Skip & Lisa, and they both would have written a note. They always came just when needed. Skip will be missed greatly, but his happy memories will live forever & one day we can meet him again. Praise the Lord for that. I thank the Lord for allowing our paths to cross, he was a Christ-like man, he loved the Lord & his family!"
