Garry Lynn Tunnell, 62, went to his heavenly home on Thursday (February 22, 2018) at his home after fighting health problems for many years. Garry was born on July 1, 1955 in Kingsport, TN to the late Clifford & Pauline Tunnell.
Garry was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, where he retired from Eastman Chemical Company after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing Bluegrass music. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Garry played and co-founded Southern Grass, which went on to win numerous contests.
Garry was of the Baptist faith, and seldom missed the radio service from Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Baker. Garry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 42 years, Patsy Tunnell; daughter, Amanda Covich & husband Patrick; two sons, Stephen Tunnell & wife Michelle and Andrew Tunnell & wife Amber; six grandchildren, which Garry loved with all of his heart, Jacob Lynn Tunnell, Kendall Tunnell, Kaleigh O’Neal, Rylee O’Neal, Dayson Smith, and Emery Tunnell; and a host of friends.
Committal services will be held on Sunday (February 25, 2018) at 2 p.m. in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be best friends Danny Moneyhun, Mike Cradic, Jeff Hashbarger, Kevin Shelton, Mike White, and TJ Blakley. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Patsy Tunnell (3353 Grandview Drive Kingsport, TN 37660).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Suncrest Hospice for all of the kind and compassionate care that was given to Garry in his time of need.
