Gerald was the son of the late Lofton Albert Buck and Eulene Flora Qualls. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenda Sue Buck; his parents; his sisters Bernell, Karen, and Diane; and his brother Stanley Buck.
He is survived by his twin sister, Geraldine; his two sons, Gerald Buck and Anthony Buck; his grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and step children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his best friend, Carol Day, who held a special place in his life.
Gerald proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Okinawa Japan, Africa and the United States.
Throughout his life, he was known as a hardworking and dedicated man. His work took him many places and many paths—from picking beans in Oregon alongside his sisters, working in California and Arizona cotton fields, repairing slot machines in Las Vegas and learning to fly a plane. He spent many years as a pipe fitter, working through the Pipe Fitters Union in Georgia, Nevada, and the coal mines of Virginia. A former coworker once said Gerald was the best pipe fitter he ever had the pleasure of working with.
A quiet man by nature, Gerald had a deep love for his wife, family and God. He enjoyed listening to his grandfather’s gospel quartet music tapes and found comfort in their familiar melodies. Though soft-spoken, he had a sharp sense of humor and could surprise anyone with his dry wit at just the right moment.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens (5650 Powell Valley Road, Big Stone Gap, Virginia, 24219) with Reverend Nathan Duggar officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the VFW. Post 5715. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M.
