I am happy to have known Girtha, if only for a short time.  She always made me smile, as well as others in our rehab department at Brakebill.  I am sadden by her departure, but as she told me one day upon entering her room, I said to her, "Good morning Girtha.  How are you today?"  She said to me, "Well, I am a happy 95 today!"  I'll never forget her talking about how much she loved her family.  She was so proud of how smart her granddaughters are and how proud of them she was.  I only wish I could have met Girtha at an earlier time, just under different circumstances.  My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.

Bridgett, We hope you will remember two of your old teachers.  We were so sorry to hear that your mother had passed away.  We remember her when she worked in the cafeteria at Sevier and when you were a student there. She was a sweet person.   John and Peggy Starnes(Kingsport, TN)

Bridgett, I've always thought of your parents with great fondness as they were two of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever known. I can still taste your mom's famous sweet tea and ham sandwiches like it was yesterday, and I remember so well the sound of her laughter. She had such a delightful and generous spirit, and I feel fortunate for having known both her and Julian. My heart goes out to you and the rest of your family.

My expression of sympathy to the Coffey family.  My name is Fred Hobbs and I worked with Girtha at the Kingsport Press in the sewing department.  I was a stacker and Girtha operated one of the sewing machines.  I had many conversations with Girtha about happenings in our society and the evil that seemed to be increasing everywhere.  You could tell the spirit of God was with her. It's been many years since I left the Press first winding up in Des Plaines, Ill. and then went to Flint, MI to work for General Motors.  From GM, I wound up in the Post Office in Flint from which I retired. I now receive a pension from U.S. Postal Service. 

I really loved Girtha.  I'm now 80 years old and a Christian serving the living God. I was not a Christian when I worked at the Press, but I was often inspired by Girtha during our conversations. If you knew Girtha, you loved Girtha.  She was a sweet angel.  I also knew Julian but not as well as Girtha.  He worked in the press department and I would see him when he would come into the sewing department to talk to Girtha. I'm saddened to hear about Girtha's passing, but I know in my heart that she's with the Lord.

May God comfort the family during this time of bereavement.

Bridgett, Your Mom was such a beautiful lady and will be missed very much.  Such fond memories of both of your parents, your Dad (the kids knew him as the Juicy Fruit chewing gum man) and your Mom's loving smile for everyone. Such a gracious hostess.  Thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

Your mother, Mrs. Coffey, was a friend and coworker of my mother Ethel Duncan, who worked as Cafeteria manager @ Johnson School.  Mrs. Coffey worked @ John Sevier School,  along with Lois Taylor.  They were coworkers, but also good friends and shared many good memories.  I have a copy of a cookbook they all did together as a fund raiser.  It has many wonderful recipes submitted by those special ladies.  My mother always spoke highly of Mrs. Coffey and her skills in cooking, especially those with a German flavor. Bridgett, I'm so saddened to hear of your sweet mother's passing.  I remember how she and your daddy were always so good and gracious to my family when we'd come over to watch the Fourth of July parade at your house! We will see  you this weekend. So very sorry to hear this sad news.  Your mother was such a wonderful person.  She was always a delight to be around and an inspiration of God's love for everyone to see and witness.  She certainly will be in heaven with God now. I am so sorry that I will not be able to come since I have commitments in Florida.  Please rest assured that I am thinking and praying for you and your family.
