

Girtha Stevens Coffey, 95, formerly of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in the Brakebill Nursing Home in Knoxville. Mrs. Coffey was born on May 19, 1919 in Alvarado, Virginia the daughter of the late Charles Stevens and Pearl Bentley Stevens. Mrs. Coffey was a former employee of the Kingsport Press and Kingsport City Schools in Food Services. She was a lifelong member of Cassidy United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee and after moving to Knoxville to live with her daughter she attended St. Mark United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Julian Coffey; four brothers, Arthur, Carmel, Phillip and Herman Stevens.
Survivors include one daughter, Bridgett Thompson and husband Dr. Robert Thompson, II, of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson, and Emily Thompson, of Knoxville, TN; several nieces ,nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Girtha Stevens Coffey will be held Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 2:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in the Gunnings Cemetery, Blountville, TN. Pallbearers will be family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Cassidy United Methodist Church, 5801 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, TN., 37664 or to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 7001 S. Northshore Drive SW, Knoxville, TN., 37919.
