

Gladys Gilliam Sanders Fillers, 98, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Appalachian Christian Village. Born on December 25, 1916 in Pocahontas, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Gilliam and Pearlie Rhodes Gilliam. Mrs. Fillers graduated from Pocahontas High in 1936 and was a member of Morrison City Christian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She worked for the Sullivan County Education system as a cook at Ketron High School for 16 years. In addition to her parents, Charlie and Pearlie Gilliam, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odis Fillers; granddaughter, Hope Schaftlein; sister, Bertha Gilliam; and brothers, Curtis Gilliam, Ralph Gilliam, Junior Gilliam, Virgil Gilliam, Clarence Gilliam and Robert Gilliam. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Doty and her husband, Duane; son, Mack Sanders; grandson, Allen Ramey and his wife, Debbie; grandson-in-law, Rick Schaftlein; great-grandchildren, Noah Schaftlein, Zach Schaftlein and Victoria Ketron and her husband, Alex; sisters, Freda Hommell, Helen Jessee and Mabel Spiva; and her special and devoted friend, Norma Miller. The family would like to thank the lower wing of Appalachian Christian Village for all their loving care, compassion and support they gave and expressed to Gladys and her family. For those who wish, friends may visit with the family 30 minutes prior to the service. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2015 in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Christus Garden of East Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morrison City Christian Church, 1940 Darnell Dr., Kingsport, TN 37665.
