Glenna Mae Rigsby Flanary, age 88, of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 16, 1938, the daughter of the late William Maynard Rigsby and Flora Carrie Hobbs Rigsby. Glenna was a devoted member of West View Baptist Church, where she found community and joy in her faith. She had a deep love for reading, often immersing herself in her Bible as well as a diverse array of other books and enjoyed talking on the phone. During her career, she worked for the Sullivan County School System. In her personal life, Glenna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, holding a special place in the hearts of her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy and were the centerpiece of her world, as she cherished every moment spent with them. Moreover, Glenna had a wonderful appreciation for nature and found great delight in watching the wildlife in her surroundings, especially the playful squirrels that often brought a smile to her face. Her kindness, warmth, and vibrant spirit will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love and fond memories will forever remain in our hearts.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Bobby Ray Flanary; sister: June Rigsby; brother: Buddy Rigsby; infant brother: Billy Joe Rigsby; niece: Patti Lea Rigsby; and uncle: CF Hobbs.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Theresa Flanary and Bobbie June Flanary Barnett and husband Jerry; grandchildren: Brian Barbour and wife Jenny, Christopher Barbour, and Logan Barnett; great-grandchildren: Bryson Barbour & Maxton Barbour; cousins Tammy Hobbs Joyner & Jake Joyner; special friend: Carol Rutherford; along with many other family and friends that loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate Glenna’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Barbour, Christopher Barbour, Logan Barnett, Bryson Barbour, Maxton Barbour, and Jake Joyner.
