Helen Faye Burks

Helen Faye Burks, 75, of Kingsport, died on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her residence. Born on June 4, 1940 in Appomattox County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Hubert E. Burks and Sammie Sheppard Burks. Mrs. Burks loved to read and had a passion for gardening and working in her yard. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and was a loving and caring wife, mother, nana and sister. In addition to her parents, Hubert E. and Sammie Sheppard Burks, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Mayo Burks; sisters, Jane Davis and Betty Puckett; and brother, Gene Burks. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Burks and Denise Hodgson and her husband, David; son, Daniel Burks and his wife, Tona; grandchildren, Nicholas and Eleanor Hodgson; sisters, Ann Hanna, Shirley Layne, Pat Spitler and Nancy Webster; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee. A graveside service will follow the visitation in the Garden of Apostles of East Lawn Memorial Park. Honoring Mrs. Burks as pallbearers will be her family and friends.
