Imogene “Jean” Goforth Overbay, 92, of Blountville passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Wexford House in Kingsport.
Jean was born December 13, 1933, to the late Melvin and Lilly Clay Goforth, and was a lifelong resident of Blountville. Jean was a retired bookkeeper and longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ray J. Overbay; son, Danny J. Overbay; two infant daughters, and a grandson, William “Joey” Overbay.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Cole; son, Billy (Debbie) Overbay; daughter-in-law, Gloria Overbay; special friend Peggy Lane; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two special grandchildren, who provided loving care to Jean, Wesley Cole and Misty Potter. Jean is also survived by three nieces and two nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Caris Hospice and Wexford House.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Estel Williams officiating. Interment services will be private.
Flowers will be appreciated or contributions in Jean’s memory can be made the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
