John graduated from Sullivan North High School in 1984, then spent 34 yrs. working at Eastman Chemical Company He was an avid sports fan and coached football at Colonial Heights Middle School. He was a Florida State and Oakland Raiders fan. He loved to travel and see new places. He took many cruises and was especially fond of Key West, FL. He was saved and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, and was of the Pentecostal faith, introduced to it at a young age.
John was preceded by his birth mother, Thelma Ferguson; grandparents, Lloyd & Gladas Rogers and George & Sara Charlton.
John leaves behind his father, John Robert Rogers, Sr.; his mother, Carol Rogers; daughter, Brannan Vanover & husband Cody of Elizabethton; son, Alex Rogers and friend Marcia Mayse; brother Scott Rogers & wife Terri; sister, Cindy O’Neal; three grandchildren, Peyton , Wyatt , and Elley Vanover; special nephew, Ben Rogers & wife Maddie; nieces, Sarah Owens, Nichole O’Neal and Lindsey Welch ; nephew, Josh O’Neal; special friend, Cindy Fields several uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of non-related brothers, Ernie Long , Wade Garvin , Jerry Hall , Kenny Pierce , Mark Harbin , Jamie McCoy , Jesse Jennings , Tim Ferrell , and Jody Millsap to name a few.
The family will receive friends on Sunday (April 7, 2019) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday (April 7, 2019) in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home at 7 p.m. with Bro. David Poore, Bro. Eugene Sexton, and his brother, Scott Rogers officiating.
