Joy R. Culbertson, age 70 of Kingsport, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior during the morning hours of Saturday, December 10, 2016. Joy was born on February 27, 1946 in Englewood, NJ to the late George Rosen and the late Beatrice Hock Rosen. On June 8, 1968, Joy married her best friend and love of her life, Richard Culbertson, and after 48 years of a beautiful marriage and raising a family together, he survives.
Joy taught school for many years; as she had a heart to teach the young minds of Sullivan County, Tennessee. Joy loved playing golf and tennis. She enjoyed traveling and she found solace in reading her favorite novels. Joy will truly be missed by many; however, her love for her family and friends will continue on in their lives.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Culbertson; daughters, Kim Culbertson and husband Robert Honey, and Kristen Blackburn and husband Carl; three grandchildren, Madi Blackburn, Camden Blackburn, and Lily Blackburn; sister, Lynn Tanno and husband Pepi; her cherished cocker spaniel “Dixie”; and a host of friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Joy on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 am, at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Phillips officiating. The church is located at 213 Colonial Heights Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hope Haven Ministries located at 670 Dale St, Kingsport, TN 37660, 423-246-6012 and/or Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church.
