June Anita Hammonds Sutherland, age 79, of Kingsport, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at The Village at Allandale. She was born on January 3, 1947, in Gate City, Virginia, as the cherished daughter of the late Albert Harvey and Lillie Mable Ramey Hammonds. A devoted member of Orebank Missionary Baptist Church, June immersed herself in community life, passionately contributing her time and energy by assisting with Bible School. She was an active participant in the church's Seniors group and generously volunteered as a substitute teacher for the 4th and 5th graders. In addition to her church commitments, June found fulfillment in attending Bible Fellowship Study sessions in Kingsport, Tennessee, and participating in support groups in loving memory of her late husband, Ned. Her heart was deeply rooted in her family and close friends, and she cherished every opportunity to gather with them. A lover of animals. June looked forward to participating in the annual bake sale at the fair. Her life was a testament to her kindness, generosity, and love for both her family and her community.
Along with her parents, June is preceded in death by her husband: Ned Sutherland and sisters: Eula Pendleton, Mary Johnson, and Daisy Glenn.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers: Jack Hammonds (Sandra) and Roy Hammonds; nieces: Rebecca Banton, Allison Falin, Ashley Mullins, Jennifer Johnson, Lauren Hammonds, Gina Moore, Kathy Ann Edens, and Jane Hankins; nephews: John Glenn and Aaron Hammonds; along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and friends that loved her dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Everlasting Life III.
