He was born July 13, 1937, in High Point, North Carolina to the late John H. Franklin and Gladys Jackson Franklin. Larry later made his home in Kingsport. He graduated from Lynn View High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 27 years of service. Larry enjoyed golfing and fishing, especially with his grandchildren, woodworking, and gardening.
Larry was married to his beloved wife, Geraldine Franklin for 47 years.
He is survived by his children, Steve Franklin (Charlotte), Scott Franklin (LeAnn), and Karen Henard and her son Jaden Henard. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Matt Franklin (Kaley), Wesley Franklin (Rebecca) and their baby on the way, Savannah Kilmarx (Justin) and their daughter Mylah, Ally Price (Andrew), Whitney Hancock (Bobby Joe) and their children, Brady, Brysen, Bevyn, and Baylor, Autumn Harris (Adam) and their children Brylea and Zander. Larry is also survived by a brother, John Franklin (Rhoda) and a sister, Delores Mayo.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at East Lawn Memorial Park’s Garden of Memories with Bill Smith officiating Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 3. Pallbearers will be selected from the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local VFW or the Wounded Warrior Project.
