

Lewis was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on May 13, 1922 to parents Lewis E. Waddle Sr., and Anna Prather Waddle. He graduated from Berea College in Berea, KY, and served honorably in the Army Air Corp as a pilot during World War II, flying troops and supplies to Europe, Africa, South America, and back to the states. After returning from duty, he met and married Nell Matheny, and settled in Kingsport.
The majority of his working life was spent as an accountant for Holston Army Defense which was a contractor through Tennessee Eastman. After his retirement, he continued to stay busy delivering furniture for a local company, helping neighbors with light construction projects, cutting firewood, and building things in his workshop, including toys for his grandchildren.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis E. Waddle Sr. and Anna Prather Waddle; his loving wife, Nell Matheny Waddle; brothers, Robert, Raymond and John; and his sister, Anne Killinger.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Virginia Henry; sons, Jerome Waddle, and Fred Waddle and his wife Ann; grandchildren, Lindsay, Jason, Robert and his wife Casey, Ryan and his wife Lynsey, and Logan and his wife Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Lena, Jake, Maggie, and Paisley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is scheduled at Mausoleum II of East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd. Kingsport, Tennessee, at 3:00 pm on Tuesday September 13, 2016. A reception will follow at East Lawn Funeral Home.
