Louise Elizabeth Deatherage, 95, passed away during the early evening hours of Saturday (October 19, 2019) following an extended illness. Louise was born on April 14, 1924 in Kingsport, TN to the late Arthur Eugene & Carrie Leona (Holt) McCroskey.
Louise was a member of the Championship Girls Basketball team for Sullivan High School. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, family vacations, and had a love for many sports, especially the Braves. Louise was a dedicated member of Mountain View United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She retired from State Farm with over 40 years of dedicated service. Louise was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, James William Deatherage; three brothers, Jack, Charlie, and Malcom “Red” McCroskey; three sisters, Mabel Cook, Peg Blackburn, and Carolyn Barnes; and two grandsons, Todd Grills and Worley Head.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Sharon Fults & husband Ken and Kathy Grills; four grandchildren, Gina Miller & husband Todd, Kevin Fults & wife Jennifer, Carrie Head, and Amber Bryson; five great-grandchildren, McKenzie Miller, Macy Miller, Caroline Fults, Addie Grace Bryson, and Braedon Willis; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday (October 23, 2019) from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Mountain View United Methodist Church (4405 Orebank Road, Kingsport, TN 37664). Funeral services will follow at Mountain View United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. Liz Hamilton officiating.
Louise will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband on Wednesday (October 23, 2019) at 2:30 p.m. in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; www.stjude.org; 800-873-6983).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Suncrest Hospice, Martha White, the staff of Preston Place II, and the staff of Wilcox Hall for all the kind and compassionate care that was given to Louise in her time of need.
