Mark Calhoun
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me one day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” II Timothy 4:7-8.
Mark Anthoney Calhoun, 53, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 8th, 2010 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mark was an active member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a soul-winner and shining testimony for Jesus to everyone he met. His life’s work and glory to God despite the numerous challenges he faced touched many and will never be forgotten. The love he displayed for his family and friends was unmatched and can never be replaced.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Amos and Pearl Bellamy Lane and Charlie and Lilly Calhoun; father-and mother-in-law, Oscar and Maude Ingle; and a special uncle, Rev. Claude Lane.
Surviving are his soul mate, caregiver and wife, Dr. Sandy Calhoun, of the home; best friend and daughter, Amanda Calhoun and fiancée Earl Lyon, Gray, TN; adored parents Calvin and Helen Calhoun, Gate City, VA; traveling companion and brother, Larry Calhoun and wife Judith, Gray, TN; cherished pets Frosty, Mary Blanche and Johnny; special aunt, Erma Lane, Gate City, VA; special uncle, Rev. Paul Lane and wife, Christine, Kingsport, TN; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Judi Maki, Kalamazoo, MI; Bill and Ardella Ledford, Chenoia, IL; Jean Ingle, Trion, GA; Ed and Sharon Vosburgh, Cartersville, GA; David and Eser Ingle, Oldsmar, FL; Rev. Gary and Carolyn Cope, Wytheville, VA; Jack Ingle, Cartersville, GA; special cousins, Dwight Lane, Gate City, VA; Lynn Cassell, Weber City, VA; and Pam Hager, Kingsport, TN; special friends Bill and Pat May, Rick and Connie McMullins, Steve and Kelly Duncan, Doris Jones, Dr. Jack C. and Bettye Parrott and Pete and Bobbie Shuler as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and devoted friends who will hold him forever as a treasure in their hearts.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sath Poobalasingham, Dr. Abrar Ahmad, Dr. Steven Butler and the staff of Kingsport Kidney Health and Fresenius Medical Care for their care and support.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Sunday, October 10th, 2010 at Sunnyside Baptist Church, 406 Cooks Valley Road, Kingsport, with Celebration of Life Services at 7 pm conducted by Dr. Jack C. Parrott and Dr. Roy D. Graves. Graveside Services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, VA. Earl Lyon, Steve Duncan, Tim Jones, Greg Rhoton, Donnie Snapp and Lloyd Baker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Bill May, Pete Shuler and Mark’s Sunnyside Baptist Church YMCA 3 Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sunnyside Baptist Church Building Fund, The Bridge Home Animal Rescue, The National Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association or Donate Life America.
