Martha Jane Gillenwater (née Whitlock), 80, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Kingsport, Tennessee after a brief period of declining health. Born on April 17, 1946, in Bristol, Tennessee, Martha lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to her family, career, and personal passions.
A proud graduate of Bluff City High School in the Class of 1964, Martha embarked on a remarkable professional journey with Palace Vending, Inc. Her career spanned an impressive 52 years, during which she rose through the ranks from secretary to Director of Sales and ultimately retired as General Manager. Her work ethic and leadership left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the company.
Martha was a woman of many interests and talents. She was an avid world traveler who cherished exploring new places and cultures. Above all else, she found joy in spending time with her family. Known for her humor, outgoing nature, and inquisitive spirit, Martha brought warmth and laughter to those around her. A breast cancer survivor, she exemplified resilience and strength throughout her life.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jennifer Marshall; her son Michael Gillenwater and his wife Marcy; her grandchildren Meredith Lounsbury (Will), Christian Marshall, Allison Marshall (Kasey), Makenzie Inniss, Morgan Harris, and Mason Gillenwater; five great-grandchildren, Evellyn, Forrest, Ellie, Aiden, and Brooks; her brother Nat Whitlock (Barbara); her sister Mary Catherine Hollingshead; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Whitlock and her nephew Brandon Whitlock.
Martha’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May the love she shared continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. A visitation will be held on May 1, 2026, from 05:00 PM to 07:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home, 4997 Memorial Boulevard, Kingsport, Tennessee.
