

Mary Katherine Decker, age 79, of Kingsport, passed away at home Wednesday, October 26, 2011. She was born January 13, 1932 in Sullivan County, TN. She was one of eleven children of the late Glen Franklin Rowland, Sr. and Ida Ethel Martin Rowland. She attended Mountain View United Methodist Church. Katherine was valedictorian of Holston Institute in Sullivan County in 1949. She graduated from East Tennessee State University with a B.S. degree in English. She taught American History at Enterprise High School for over 30 years in Enterprise, Alabama. She was a member of the Enterprise Education Association and the Alabama Education Association. When Katherine wasn’t teaching, she spent her time at the beach and doting on her four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Vernon P Rowland, Earl K Rowland,Sr, Colonel Ray M Rowland, James E Rowland,Sr, & Glen F Rowland,Jr. – all of Kingsport; and four sisters: Florence R P Fields, Stella Louise Rowland, Claire Rowland & Juanita Rowland – all of Kingsport. Surviving are husband, Richard C Decker, daughter & son-in-law, Jonne & Luke Williams of Knoxville, TN; son & daughter-in-law, Jeff & Donna Decker of Kingsport; four grandchildren: Joshua Decker & Aaron Decker of Kingsport, Morgan Williams & Caleb Williams of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Frances R Fulkerson of Kingsport; sister in law, Reba Cox Rowland of Kingsport,and several nieces & nephews. Calling hours are from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, October 30 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Randy Lantz officiating. A graveside service will follow. Grandsons & nephews will serve as pall bearers.
