Mary Helen Counts Dodson, age 93, passed away from this world into the presence of the Lord on April 23, 2018. Mary Helen was born on May 8, 1924 to the late William and Bessie Counts in Abingdon, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert A. Dodson, Jr., brothers John Counts, Howard Counts, and sister Doris Counts Harris.
Mary Helen graduated from Bristol Commercial College and attended King College and E.T.S.U. She retired from Trustees Office in Sullivan County, TN after many years. After retiring, she began a new business, Cannonball House Gifts and Antiques with her husband. She loved going to auctions, reading the Bible, but most of all, helping and giving to others.
Her family felt her love and sweet nature in everything she touched. She was strong and an anchor in her quiet, unassuming way.
Mary Helen loved her church family at Blountville United Methodist Church. She was a member for over sixty years.
She was loved and will be missed by her loving daughters, family and dear friends.
Survivors include her daughters Linda Dodson and Brenda Dodson; sister-in-law Thelma Counts of Lake City, FL; nieces Deborah Harris Morrell and Mary Lynn Dew; nephews Jerry Harris, Jeffery Counts, Billy Counts, Roy Doan and David Doan; several special great nieces and nephews and many special friends that knew her as friends or Momma Dodson.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 27, 2018 at East Lawn Funeral Home, HWY 126, Kingsport, TN. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park, adjacent to the funeral home.
