Mary Virginia Hughes

Mrs. Mary V. Hughes left this world wrapped in the arms of Jesus on June 15, 2014 at the age of 96. She was dearly loved by her family and a multitude of friends and neighbors. Mrs. Hughes was born on September 26, 1917, the daughter of the late Joe Thomas Saul and Amanda Elizabeth Cooper Saul. She was a member of the Gravley Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Bert Hughes in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Hughes Bishop in 1978 and by a son, Harold Hughes in 1988 she was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include five sons, Fred (Rebecca) Hughes, Earl (Connie) Hughes, Bill (Brenda) Hughes, George (Anita) Hughes and David (Kristie) Hughes. Two daughters, Sandra (David) Hicks and Beulah Faye (Jeff) Owens. Other family members include Lonnie (Wilma) Statzer, Virgie (Bill) Falin, Ruby (Winsor) Hass. A number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with a number of nieces and nephews and a special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Wanda Tipton also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be conducted on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Junior Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of the Well in East Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until the service hour at the funeral home and at other hours may be contacted at the residence. Pallbearers will include family and friends.The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the following caregivers, Juanita, Valerie, and Amanda.
