

Mary Kathleen (Mullins) Morgan (89) passed peacefully at her home June 5, 2015. Kathleen was born September 2, 1925 in Clintwood, VA, where she graduated Clintwood High School and played on the basketball team. During World War II Kathleen moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a typist/fingerprint clerk for the FBI with her cousin and sister. After marrying Joel Birtus (J.B.) Morgan, she settled in Kingsport and was the bookkeeper for the family business, Morgan’s Tire Service. She and J.B. raised five children and enjoyed many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid golfer, winning several championships in women’s golf tournaments 1981-1985. Kathleen enjoyed being outdoors, and could cultivate beautiful plants. Her grandchildren recall fun summers by their grandparents’ pool. Kathleen was an animal lover and doted on her dogs. She was known for preparing wonderful food, and her roll recipe will be a family keepsake. Throughout her whole life, Kathleen loved to be around people, and would happily share the stories of many generations of friends and family. Daily, she checked in on friends and family, sharing news and stories. Kathleen chronicled family holidays and get-togethers with her camera, and her home hosts many photo albums and boxes of photographs that span over five generations.Kathleen was a member of Litz Manor Baptist Church, and was active in church service for many years. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She studied daily devotionals and her daily prayers always remembered friends and family through any trial or tribulation. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Grace Mullins; husband of fifty-eight years, J.B. Morgan; brothers Ervin Mullins, Johnny Mullins, and Shirley Mullins; and sisters Trula June Morrison and Laura Sue Dean. She is survived by her two sons; William Morgan and wife Rhonda (McPherson) Morgan, Charles Morgan; and three daughters, Sue (Morgan) and husband Rick Ealy, Phyllis (Morgan) and husband David White, Rita (Morgan) and husband Phil Snoddy; her brother, Elwood Mullins; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Tuesday June 9, 2015 from 5 – 7 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport TN. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm on Tuesday, June 9 in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home.A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in the Garden of Prayer of East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport.Donations can be made to Litz Manor Baptist Church Kingsport TN.
