Nancy Rachel Hawks
August 25, 1941 – September 6, 2018
Nancy Rachel Hawks, 77, entered into eternal rest during the early morning hours of Thursday (September, 6 2018) surrounded by her loving family at her home. Rachel was born on August 25, 1941 in Lebanon, VA to the late Turner & Leona (Morrison) Harmon.
Rachel truly had the heart of a servant, always serving others and never expecting anything in return. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years. She was a devout Christian and a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church since 1978. Rachel was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Leonard Harmon.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Brad Hawks and girlfriend, Tracey Cline; daughter, Laura Dunn & husband Ken; three sisters, Nell Hanson, Peggy Nininger, and Mary Linkous; grandson, Cody Nidiffer; two great-grandchildren; best friend, Janet Rachel; special friend, Pat Bowers; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will greet guests and share memories on Monday (September, 10 2018) from 6 to 8 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (September 11, 2018) at 1 pm in the chapel at East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Parrot and Pastor Darrell Harmon officiating. So sorry to hear about Rachel's passing. Etta attended Lebanon High School and nurses training at Johnson Memorial with Rachel. They were always close friends. Even though we have been in California for over fifty years, they were in occasional contact as well as at the high school reunions organized so efficiently by Rachel.
She was athletic, caring, intelligent and always so dependable. She will surely be missed by so many.
I was unaware that Leonard had passed but did see and talk to Joe near the end.
I still have fond memories of making hooks from safety pins and fishing for minnows (about 70 to 75 years ago) in front of the Mountain home while the Turner & Leona family still lived up Big Cedar Creek. (An incomplete family at the time. There were more cousins to come).
We will continue to remember the Harmons in our prayers.
Time passes much too fast.
