Peggy Hubmann Thomas

Peggy Hubmann Thomas, 69, of Kingsport, blessed by God, resigned her soul to her Creator on April 3, 2016, after a 17-year battle with breast cancer.

Peggy, a lifelong resident of Kingsport, was born on March 20, 1947, at home during a heavy snow to the late John George Hubmann and Virginia Dare Gilliam Hubmann. She graduated from Ketron High School as valedictorian in 1965. She worked at Tennessee Eastman Company from 1965 to 1972. Peggy married Charles F. Thomas in 1967, and with the birth of their only son, Chuck Brandon Thomas, in 1972, she became a full-time mother. Peggy and Charles founded their own small business, Brandon's International Shop, in 1983 and managed the store until 1995. She enjoyed being a faithful mother, wife, daughter, and sister. Peggy traveled to Hawaii many times to see her husband's relatives and enjoy the beauty of the islands. She also enjoyed traveling to see her son's family, especially after her grandson, Bryce Harrison Thomas, was born in 2008. Peggy had many talents and interests, not the least of which was beautifying her home and the flower gardens that surround it. She loved being outdoors, enjoying the beauty that God has given us. Peggy also played piano and organ at several local churches from 1957 to 1972. She was blessed to have this talent, and it enriched her life and her relationship with her Creator. She was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Hubmann, and many aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish Peggy's memory are her husband Charles F. Thomas of Kingsport; son Chuck Brandon Thomas and his wife Deborah Gibson Thomas and their son Bryce Harrison Thomas of Lakeland, TN; sister-in-law Evelyn Thomas McConnell and her husband Harold McConnell of Kingsport; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Peggy is also survived by many loving friends too numerous to name.

The family will greet family and friends to share memories on Tuesday, April 5 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. A service will follow at 1:00pm at the East Lawn chapel with Reverend J.W. Depew officiating, and burial will immediately follow the service at East Lawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Amedisys for their compassionate hospice care and Dr. Malcolm Mathews and the staff at Regional Cancer Center at Indian Path Medical Center for their devotion to Peggy's treatment and care.
