

Peter Michael Byerley 64 passed away peacefully at his residence on December 17, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Born on September 7, 1953 in Montour Falls, New York, he was the second child of William and Eleanor "Jeanne" Byerley. He was preceded in death by his father William and his mother, Jeanne. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his son, Kent; daughter, Lorna Hensley and spouse Ronnie; his sisters: Margaret Leaman, Etta Wood and spouse Tim; nieces: Callie Tankersley, and spouse Kevin, Meg Dykes; nephews: Luke Wood, Skyler Leaman and spouse Kristi; grandchildren: Ireland, Hannah, Cloe, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Colton; three great nephews: Samuel, Izayah, Axl; special friend, Steve Light.
Pete attended Sullivan High School in Kingsport, University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University. He worked at Sullivan Paving Company, a business his father started. Upon his father's death, he assumed ownership of the business, which he has owned and operated since that time. He was also the founder of US Asphalt in addition to having been a well-known business owner in the area.
During the years, Pete had many adventures including scuba diving, snow skiing, and skydiving. He loved fast cars, motorcycles and enjoyed raising and showing Tennessee walking horses. Pete was also a licensed airplane pilot. He was an avid traveler and loved impromptu trips; usually the trips were spur of the moment and when you left you never knew when you would be back.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Preaching Christ Church, 707 East Sullivan Street Kingsport, TN 37660, on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 5-7 pm. A celebration of life will begin at 7 pm. with Pastor Chad Roberts officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am. on Friday, December 22 in the Garden of Peace I at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends for the Fight, a local fund for cancer patients, 707 East Sullivan, Kingsport TN 37664.
