Phillip “Phil” Dale Moody, age 79, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after a brief illness at Holston Valley Medical Center. Phil was born on May 6, 1946, to the late Clyde Alvin and Janette Nichols Moody. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. Phil was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family was unwavering. He was also a faithful member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, where he found great joy and purpose in his faith; his church community was an integral part of his life, and he cherished the friendships he built there. Phil was known for his incredible sense of humor, always finding a way to brighten the day of those around him. In his early years, he exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit, founding Coffee World, a beloved café located in the Johnson City Mall. He also managed various restaurants in the surrounding area, where he continued to share his joyful personality with customers and staff alike until his retirement. In his leisure time, Phil enjoyed card and board games, playing basketball, softball, volleyball, golfing, and bowling, or watching sports on television. Though he may no longer be with us, the memories he created and the impact he made will forever remain in our hearts.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years Janet Crews Moody; son Brian Moody & wife Robin; and grandchildren Kaylee & Alex Moody; along with many other friends and family that loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:30 am – 12:45 pm at Higher Ground Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jason Dowdell officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park with full military rites provided.
