Rachel B. Harrison, born in Russell County, Virginia to the late Frank & Ethel Johnson on June 10, 1920, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Rachel was a wife and homemaker for 50 years, a wonderful mom, Mamaw, sister, and aunt. She was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church and had a special love for the GIRLS Sunday School class. She especially loved bingo, spending time at the mall, and getting her hair and nails done. She was “Mamaw” to many besides her own family and was well-known for making people laugh with her stories and witty come-backs. Her family could always count on her to know every date and detail of the family history.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Haskell R. Harrison; infant son, Haskell Harrison, Jr.; brothers, John Henry Johnson, Charlie B. Johnson, and Buck Johnson; sister, Lynn Johnson; and son-in-law, Bill Pierce.
Rachel is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Pierce; grandson, Traver Pierce and wife Jennifer; granddaughter, Shonda Baldwin and husband Michael; great-grandchildren Zachary, Josiah, Levi, & Bethany Pierce and Chloe & Savannah Baldwin; brothers, Samuel C. Johnson, Ben Johnson and wife Linda; sister, Evelyn Minton; sister-in-law Joan Etta Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and cats Skittles and Snickers.
Visitation is scheduled from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at East Lawn Funeral Home with funeral and graveside services to follow.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Courageous Giving Fund at CHCC.
Special thanks are extended to the staff of HVMC; especially the trauma team, SICU staff, W2 staff, W3 staff, and hospice team for taking care of Rachel and her family.
