Ray was born in West Virginia living most of his life in Delaware and moved to Kingsport in 2009.
Ray served his country in the National Guard of Ohio being honorable discharged as a private First Class from Co C 112th Engr Bn in September 1959.
Ray retired from the Sheet Metal Union #19 in Delaware in 1995. During his career, he performed architectural sheet metal work including fabricating and installing.
Ray was a charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose Chapter 203 in Delaware. Actively served in multiple capacities including Governor and Ritual Team. He earned his Pilgrim Degree.
Ray also was an avid Cleveland Browns football fan. Choosing to be a football rival of his son Mike's team the Dallas Cowboys.
Ray was predeceased by his wife of over 57 years Velma Morningstar in 2021, his loving daughter Ann Lawson in 2022, and son Michael Kilgore 2022.
Those left to cherish his memory are son, Jim Morningstar of Lee High, FL, daughters Jeannie Morningstar-Tippin (Kent) of Reading PA, Barbara Moore (Roger) of Kingsport, TN daughter in law Shirley Kilgore of St Charles, MO., son-in-law Bob Lawson. Siblings: Richard, Kenny and Larry Mussig, Arnie Jenkins; Darlene Byers, Melanie Seman, Margaret Markle and Burma Campanale. 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at East Lawn Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 7:00.
Military graveside services will be on Saturday, Nov 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM in East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sullivan Baptist Church Building Fund at 4152 Maplewood St, Kingsport, TN 37660.
