Affectionately known as “Blue” while on the job, Rick dedicated 50 years of faithful service to AFG/AGC/Cardinal Glass in Church Hill. He was a loyal, dependable, and hardworking employee whose long tenure reflected a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment. He retired in 2024.
Rick was a devoted sports fan who proudly supported the University of Tennessee and the Las Vegas Raiders. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and NHRA drag racing, interests that brought him great enjoyment throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Pierson, and his niece, Rebecca Akers.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife and partner of more than 40 years, Patricia Overbay, of the home; his children, Chris Overbay (Becca), Dewey Lemmons, Christy Sewell (Joe), Hope Young, and Aubrey McCarty (Chris); and his ten grandchildren, Nikkie, Steven, Taylor, Cameron, Zach, Gracie, Josie, Summer, Briley, and Chandler. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Amiya, who, along with his grandchildren, was a tremendous source of pride and joy.
He also leaves behind two very special companions, Max and Minnie, who will miss him dearly—especially their mid-morning, mid-afternoon, afternoon, and pre-bed naps.
Rick will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose legacy lives on through his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation services for Mr. Overbay will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, January 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a graveside service to follow. The family will receive friends at the home of Christy and Joe Sewell following interment.
