Richard Ratliff, age 79 entered into rest Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, a son of the late Alvin and Clara Holt Ratliff, he resided in this area most of his life. Rev. Ratliff attended Moody Bible Institute and was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and Southern Seminary. He pastored several Baptist churches and was involved several years in Evangelistic Ministries. Richard was a dedicated minister, husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Clara Ratliff, and his brothers, Bill and Glenn Ratliff. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nell Ratliff, one son Tim Ratliff and his wife Donna, two grandsons, Alex Ratliff and Isaac Ratliff all of Kingsport, one brother, Afton Ratliff and wife Avis of Cincinnati, Oh., one sister Betty Roller, mother in law Clara Bradley, sister in law Mary Ratliff all of Kingsport, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved pet, Abby. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept., 10th at East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bud Russell officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dickie Warren, Bill Maggard, Lloyd Conant, Dr. Lee Warren, Lynn Davis, Reverend David Salley. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s International or Sunnyside Baptist Church Building Fund.
