Robert Childress
October 15, 1945 – May 25, 2011
Robert “Bob” Childress “Death leaves heartache that only time can heal, but love leaves a memory even time can’t steal.”
Robert (Bob) Gwynn Childress was born on October 15, 1945 and steeped into glory on May 25, 2011. He is a 1963 graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army for 3 years. He worked for Fluor Daniels for many years up until retirement. .He was an avid athlete in his younger years and in recent years he loved golf and being outdoors and wood working. He was at his root a very private person with a heart of gold and enjoyed the simple things in life, mostly his wife, children, grandchildren and had a huge place in his heart for his loyal dogs Gabe and Rosie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Mary Ann Thompson Childress and his children, Robin Cody and husband Chad, Cammy Hale and husband Jim and Jonathan Thompson and wife Hope. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Taylor Hale, Lexy Cody, Austin Hale, Nicholas Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Hannah Harless, Katelyn Harless and Emily Harless as well as 3 sisters and one brother; Gary Childress and wife Barbara, Lynn Gross and husband Kenneth, Ellen Fields and Patsy Davidson and husband Charles. He also has many loved nieces, nephews and cousins
He is preceded in death by his father Willie (Bill) Lynn Childress and mother Mary Alice Childress.
Military Graveside services will be conducted .Friday May 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM. –with military honors accorded by The American Legion Color Guard, with Pastor Mike Stout officiating.

I'M SO SORRY THAT MY DEAR FRIEND BOB HAS PASSED AWAY. HE USE TO COME BY WORK AND SIT AND TALK FOR AWHILE, EVEN AFTER HE RETIRED HE STILL CAME BY. BOB HAD A SUPER PERSONALITY AND WE LOST A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE WHEN HE LEFT. BOB WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN BY ALL HIS FRIENDS THAT LOVED HIM SO MUCH.
