

Robert “Stewart” Hicks, age 73 of Kingsport, was taken up to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Stewart was born on April 21, 1943, in Weeksbury, KY to the late Robert Ray Hicks and the late Sylvia Moore Hicks. On September 1, 1978, Stewart married his best friend and love of his life, Velma Wallace, and after 38 years of a beautiful marriage together, she survives.
Stewart worked as a Pre-Pressman for the Kingsport Press for over 43 years. His family was the center of his life and he loved spending every moment with them. He loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a servant’s heart and spirit of giving to others; he was a friend to all.
Stewart is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Velma Hicks; two daughters, Tammy Walser and husband Robert, and Kristi Jeffers and husband Scott; five grandchildren, Brad Jeffers, Adam Jeffers, Alex Jeffers, Dylan Walser, and Kinley Walser; two brothers, Bill Hicks and wife Leah, and Mark Hicks and wife Lisa; one sister, Kim Russell and husband Clayton; uncle, Wesley Moore; special niece, Amy Lett and husband Toby; nephew, Rick Johnson and wife Heather; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 pm, immediately following the visitation with Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
