

Robert Wayne “Buddy” Hughes, age 76 of Kingsport, entered into eternal rest during the early evening hours on Monday, January 4, 2016. Buddy was born to the late Charles James Hughes and the late Beulah Philyaw Hughes on October 1, 1939 in Fremont, VA. Buddy served four years in the United States Air Force and worked as a truck driver for over 35 years. Buddy was a quiet man, but his character spoke volumes of who he was. Buddy was a member of Celebration Church in Blountville and he loved spending time with his family and watching sports. Buddy also enjoyed communicating with his many friends across the world via Facebook.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kitty Sproles; and three brothers-in-law. Left to cherish his memories are his son, Robby Hughes and wife Terry; one brother, Don Hughes and fiancé Dorothy Donihe; two sisters, Reta Hill and Patti Flannary; one granddaughter, Teagan Hughes; and special friend, Harriette Cassick.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. immediately following visitation in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Wood officiating.
There will be a Military Honor’s Graveside service on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garden of Prayer of East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by the Kingsport American Legion Post 3/265. Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy’s nephews and cousins.
