Roscoe C. Johnston
Roscoe C. Johnston, age 83 died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Wexford House in Kingsport, TN.
Roscoe was born in Lee County, VA. He attended Pennington Gap High School and served his country during WWII in France and Germany where he was a guard at the Nuremberg Trials. He proudly served with 3 of his brothers in WWII. He later became a brick and stone mason for 40 years, 20 years in Detroit, MI. and 20 years in Kingsport. Ross later retired from Overnight Transportation Corp. He was a faithful member of Vermont United Methodist Church, Kingsport, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Laura S. Johnston, 3 brothers; Dock S. Johnston, W. Paul Johnston and Charles S. Johnston and sister Lorene J. Ely.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Jo Ann Blevins Johnston, 2 sisters, Beatrice J. Jones, Lee Nursing Home, Pennington Gap, VA. And Alice J. Jones, Kingsport. Brothers, Earl C. Johnston and wife Georgia, Pennington Gap, VA., Wilma Johnston, West Milton, Ohio; Brother-in-law, Claude Ely, Pennington Gap, VA; and several nieces and nephews, and a special great, great nephew and namesake, Ross Johnston, Brentwood, TN.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 5- 7 PM., at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 PM with Rev. Homer Roller and Pastor Jared Wood, officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, VA. At 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 14, 2010. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 PM.
