

She was born June 3, 1939, in Sullivan County to the late William Tommy and Margaret Caroline Elliot Harr. Shirley loved flowers and enjoyed playing the piano for many years at Hickman Memorial Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and above all Shirley was devout in her Christian faith. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Oakley Ashbrook and her brother, Millard Harr.
Survivors include her sons, Tom Ashbrook and wife Cheryl and David Ashbrook; daughter, Kathy Shaffer; grandchildren, Laura Perry and husband Travis, Derrick Ashbrook and wife Beth, and Ashley Shaffer; great grandchildren, Caleb Perry, Addison Perry, Kaylee Fields, and Brooklyn Jones; great-great grandchildren, Ivy Rose Fields; brother, Howard Harr and wife Judy; special friend, Linda Ramsey. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 19, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at East Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ed McClain officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park where Derrick Ashbrook, Travis Perry, Caleb Perry, Chris Ashbrook, Gary Harr, Jeff Scott, and Greg Parker will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Lisa Feathers, Phyllis Dunn, and Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and love during Shirley’ illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Shirley’s memory to a local children’s charity.
