Born on May 15, 1961, Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Lloyd and Emily Bailey. She dedicated 36 years of her life to the art of cosmetology. She proudly owned and operated Professional Styles before continuing her career at Styling Edge, where she built lasting friendships with both coworkers and clients.
Susan never met a stranger. She had a quick wit, an infectious laugh, and a smile that could brighten any room. Devoting her life to helping others, she enjoyed gathering family and friends around the table for home-cooked meals, hosting get-togethers, serving her community, and creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Music was one of Susan’s greatest passions, and she truly believed it had the power to heal the soul. As a proud member of the John S. Battle High School Band (class of 79), she played both the Clarinet and French Horn. Her love for music never faded, and she became a dedicated supporter of the John Battle Band Booster Program, helping provide opportunities for future generations of young musicians.
Susan’s faith was the foundation of her life. She was a faithful member of Wyndale United Methodist Church, where she found strength, fellowship, and comfort throughout the years.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Matthew Lewis, and her lifelong best friend, Penny (Phillips) Avery.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Maggie Stanfill and husband, Chase; her son, Matthew Lewis and wife, April; her grandchildren, Bryson Carter, Taylor Stanfill, and Bella Lewis; her adopted grandchildren, Kailey Hoosier, Atlanta Meade, Sara Grace King, Logan Meade, and Clara Meade. She is also survived by her lifelong friends, Mary Munsey, Judy (Martin) Gearing, Joyce Smith, Teresa (Collins) Gilmer, Sue Woods, and Carolynn Cornett, as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Kimberly Dean, Jamie Crockett, Miranda Busler, Traci Jobe, Barbie Mumpower, Beverly Smith, Dr. Derek White, Dr. Rasmiyah Jastan, Dr. Raza Hussain, the Interventional Radiology Department at Bristol Regional Medical Center, the nurses and staff of 3 East, and Ballad Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided Susan and her family.
In keeping with Susan’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highlands Ballet Company, where her grandchildren dance, and/or the John Battle Band Booster Program, two organizations that held a special place in Susan’s heart.
The family finds comfort in knowing Susan is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, reunited with those who have gone before her, and watching over all who loved her.
Don’t Cry for Me
by Deborah Garcia Gaitan
Don’t cry for me.
I will be okay.
Heaven is my home now,
and this is where I’ll stay.
Don’t cry for me.
I’m where I belong.
I want you to be happy
and try to stay strong.
Don’t cry for me.
It was just my time,
but I will see you someday
on the other side.
Don’t cry for me.
I am not alone.
The angels are with me
to welcome me home.
Don’t cry for me,
for I have no fear.
All my pain is gone,
and Jesus took my tears.
Don’t cry for me.
This is not the end.
I’ll be waiting here for you
when we meet again.
