Thelma Shaffer Giesler, 96, went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born in Blountville, TN on September 11, 1923 to the late Lula and George William Shaffer. Thelma was the sixth of nine children. She was a dedicated wife and a loving mother and grandmother. Thelma enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and quilting. She was a long time member of Cedar View Independent Methodist Church where she participated in the Ladies Group.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dalton Albert Giesler; her parents, Lula Pullon-Shaffer and George William Shaffer; sisters, Viola Booher, Ida Hunt, Irene Mitchell, and Mary Mowdy; and brothers, Raymond Shaffer, Cloyd Shaffer, Hugh Shaffer, and William “Bill” Shaffer.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Linda Hunt and husband Lawrence, Larry Giesler and wife JoAnn, and Kathy Collett and husband Roger; grandchildren, Lisa Giesler, Vickie Foster and husband Craig, Amy Hayes and husband Matthew, Kevin Collett and wife Kati, Craig Collett and Chris Collett and wife April; great-grand children, Michael Hayes, Lanissa Hayes, Seth Foster, Hannah Foster, Daniel Collett, Katheryn Collett, Abigail Collett, Tristen Collett and Ethan Collett; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 5:00 to 6:30pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of Thelma’s Life will follow at 6:30 in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Jimmy Fields.
Thelma will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 10:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Faith officiated by Earl Miller.
