Tom grew up in Sweetwater, TN. He unselfishly served our country in the National Guard as well as the United States Army (COC 7th Calvary Regt. APO 201). He served in Korea where he was wounded in action and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He later graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Tom retired from Holston Defense in 1996. He was a member of the VFW, as well as a Charter Member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 3274 and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 3141.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife off 44 years, Ann Francis North; and brother, Richard North.
Left to cherish his memories are his life companion of the past 19 years, Rosalyn Fletcher & family; son, Thomas H. North, Jr. & wife Doris of Winchester, TN; brother, James North & wife Traci of McDonough, GA; sister, Susan Lewis & husband Steve of Knoxville, TN; step-mother, Catherine North of Knoxville, TN; cousin, H.B. Campbell & wife Lynn of Sweetwater, TN; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Committal services will be held on Saturday (October 13, 2018) at 2 p.m. at Monte Vista Memorial Park (1900 E Oakland Ave Johnson City, TN 37601) in the Garden Niche. Military rites will be provided by American Legions Posts 3/265.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to American Legion Posts 3/265 (P.O. Box 66 Kingsport, TN 37662).
