

Virgie Marie Hurd, age 82, entered her heavenly home on August 26, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born in Kingsport, TN to the late John and Emma Harless. Virgie married Virgil Lee Hurd on November 4, 1950 and worked at various retail stores in the Kingsport area. She was a member of Pineview Free Will Baptist Church and had a passion for gospel music. Virgie sang at churches and nursing homes in the region with The Hurd Family Singers as well as church members. Sharing God’s love and everyone’s need for a personal relationship with Him as their Savior was a priority in her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Virgil; brothers, Edward, Charlie, Steve, Frank and Johnny; and sisters Beulah, Mary, Anna Lee, Gracie, Beatrice and Margie. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Living in her home for over 52 years, Virgie had a special relationship and love for her neighbors.The family will receive friends at the residence from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 and from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2015 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Cavin and Jack Morelock officiating. Music will be provided by The Tiller Family and Calvin Alley. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Garden of the Mausoleum of East Lawn Memorial Park. Her nephews and neighbors will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Church Hill Health Care and the office of Dr. Daniel Carroll.
