

Virginia Church Pless, age 86, who had made her home in Kingsport, TN for the past three years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the Life Care Center of Gray. Originally from Ashe County, NC and lived several years in Roaring River, NC. Virginia was born on November 20, 1938, to the late Earl Linsey and Delfina Trivette Church. Before her retirement, Virginia dedicated over 20 years of her career to the furniture industry, working as an inspector at American Drew. Known for her strong Baptist faith, she cherished the moments spent with her family, which brought her immense joy throughout her life. Virginia's green thumb was evident in her passion for maintaining a beautiful yard, where she enjoyed both mowing and gardening. Beyond her outdoor pursuits, she was an exceptional cook, had a knack for sewing, and found great pleasure in listening to country music, all of which were reflections of her vibrant personality and dedication to those she loved.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Amon, Bill, Jack, and John Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Judy McCulley (Jim); son James Lee Pless; grandson James Paul Sturgill and great-grandchildren Isabella and Reese Sturgill; step-granddaughter Laura Houser (Andrew); and step-great-grandchildren Josiah and Adalyn.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at East Lawn Funeral Home. Followed by a service to celebrate Virginia’s life in the chapel at 11:00 am with Chaplain Steven Collins officiating. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon at East Lawn Memorial Park.
