Zelda J Barnette

She was born February 10, 1935, in Rogersville, Tennessee to the late Leonard and Sallie Ora Purcell. Zelda graduated from East Tennessee State University with both her Bachelor's in English and later her Master's Degree in education. She was an English teacher in the Sullivan County School system for her whole career. After retirement, Zelda and her late husband traveled the country. Even though she loved seeing other places, she always had a special fondness for her Tennessee mountain home. Zelda’s family will always remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, teacher, and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Zelda was a life member of North Kingsport Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Lee Barnette, Jr.; her loving son, Jerry Lynn Barnette; and grandson, Brian Jason Barnette.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Joel Keith Barnette and wife Argelene; daughter, Leigh Ann Bridgman and husband Jeff; grandson, Joel George Luke Barnette. Zelda is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her church family.

Graveside services will be held privately; however, a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
