Alvaro Arturo Gutierrez

Alvaro Arturo Gutierrez of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at the age of 81. He was born on October 10, 1930, to Arturo and Olivia Gutierrez in Hebbronville, Texas. Alvaro served his country and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. After his discharge, he owned a dry cleaners business in Hebbronville. Alvaro moved his family to Kingsville and began his forty year law enforcement career. He served his community with the Kingsville Police Department as Captain and Interim Chief of Police until his retirement. Alvaro then completed his law enforcement career with Kleberg County Sherriff’s Department.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Alvaro will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his great-granddaughter, Abbigail; his in-laws, Joe D. and Jesusa Gonzalez; and his brother-in-law, Bryan B. Gonzalez.

Alvaro leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Alma G. Gutierrez of Kingsville; two children, Alice G. (Jose Antonio) Mendoza of Kingsville and Alan A. (Gloria) Gutierrez of Odem, Texas; five grandchildren: Jose Antonio Mendoza II, Javier Alvaro Mendoza, Arturo A. (Lilleana) Gutierrez, Anthony A. (Sabrina) Gutierrez and Adrianna A. Gutierrez; three step-grandchildren: Lillian Garcia, Gilbert Garcia and Michael Garcia; three great-grandchildren: Adelaida, Alexander and Ethan; two brothers, Alberto A. (Elia) Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Victoriano (Emelda) Canales of Buda, Texas; his sister-in-law, Maria M. Gonzalez of Hebbronville; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Oscar O. (Elsa) Gonzalez also of Hebbronville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Physicians and Staff at Christus Spohn Kleberg and Shoreline Hospital for their loving care of Alvaro.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, Kingsville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kingsville. Burial will follow at New Hebbronville Cemetery.
