

Charles A. Baker, Jr. of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at the age of 97. He was born on September 7, 1913, to Charly and Alma Baker in Crawford, Texas. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army. He served during WWII and participated in the China, Burma, India Theater of War. Charles was a member of F Troop 124th Calvary Association. He was the last member of the Mounted Horse Calvary. While in Junior College, he played football for Independence, Kansas. He continued enjoying the game by being a member of the Javelina Booster Club. Mr. Baker retired from Exxon after thirty-four years of service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, Betty Jane Baker; his sister, Avis Colwick; and his brother, Joe Baker.
Charles is survived by two sons, Clem C. (Linda) Baker, Jr. of Kingsville and Burke (Sandra) Baker of Calallen, Texas; one sister, Joyce Bone of Gatesville, Texas; nine grandchildren: Dustin (Alisha) Baker, Katie Baker, Clem (Ashley) Baker, Gus Baker, Vikki Baker, Lisa (William) Gordon, Christy Mata, Joe Anthony Mata and Cruz Mata III; one great -granddaughter, his namesake, Charlee Baker; and six step great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday, September 7, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte, Piper Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Deacon Joiner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Chamberlain Cemetery.
