Dwight Hazlett

Born in Enid, Oklahoma on September 3, 1922 and raised in Aransas Pass, Texas, he married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Neely Hazlett, on June 2, 1942. They shared 52 years together, raised two children and spent many exciting summers traveling the United States and Canada in their motor home.

After proudly serving in the Navy during WWII, Dwight graduated from Texas A & I University in Kingsville and began his accounting career with Champlin Oil Company in Corpus Christi. A technology pioneer, he was among the first to establish computers as a necessary entity in the corporate environment.

In 1962, Dwight returned to academia to develop the Electronic Data Processing Department at Texas A & I where he taught for more than 30 years until retiring. He received numerous awards during that time including his most coveted - Teacher of the Year – a nomination by his many students.

As a dedicated member of Kiwanis International, he served in numerous organizational positions including Lt. Government for Division 4 – TX/OK. Additionally, becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts organization, remained one of his proudest accomplishments.

Surviving Dwight is his wife and caregiver, Maxine Linder Hazlett, his children Cherlyn Hazlett Gwin (John) and Darryl Hazlett (Karen), grandchildren Michelle (Gwin) Mott, David Gwin Rivertree, Jonathan Hazlett and Jennifer Hazlett and great-granddaughter, Carter Isabella Mott. Stepsons Jack (Linda), Bob (Melanie) and James Linder and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dolly, and wife Bernice.

Visitation is planned from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville on Monday, March 5, to be followed by his service in their Chapel at 1:30 pm and interment at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kiwanis International or the Alzheimer Foundation.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
