

Mr. Morris enjoyed a long life filled with friends and family. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked construction. He owned a butane-propane supply company in Wichita, Kansas before moving his family to Premont, Texas in 1957 where he worked for Trunkline Gas Company until his retirement in 1987. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and active in community projects. He was always ready for a spirited game of cards or dominos. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States and Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Iva Morris and by his wife of 52 years, Avis R. Morris. Gene is survived by his three children, Dr. Thomas E. Morris of Corpus Christi, Katherine M. Payne of Kingsville and Mary L. (Bernard) De Sessa of Burleson, Texas; five grandchildren, Andrew Morris, Nicholas (Adriana) Morris, Samson (Suzanne) De Sessa, Robert (Cynthia) De Sessa and Dr. Susan R. De Sessa. Gene enjoyed meeting eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held December 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 302 West Kleberg Street, Kingsville with Rev. Chuck Miller officiating. The family invites you to join them to remember Gene at a reception in the church’s fellowship hall following the service. Burial of cremains will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Premont Cemetery, Premont, Texas.
