Norma June Hughes

Norma June Hughes, age 82, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born April 30, 1929 in Floydada, Texas to Ed C. Slaton and Bessie Lee Durham Slaton. Mrs. Hughes in her early years was employed as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Robstown, Texas and later employed for the Federal Government. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Constable Jack E. Hughes; parents; and two brothers, James Slaton and Edwin “Buddy” Slaton.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Herlinda G. Reyes (Reynaldo) of Bishop; two sisters, Betty Dunaway of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Marilyn Crane of Carson City, Nevada; one brother, Thomas Slaton (Joann) of Fresno, California; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Bishop. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop at Restland Cemetery.
