Our matriarch has taken her final journey. The memories of over 100 years are with her, but many remain with us.
Ruth spent many years in Kingsville working for both Dr. Steinbaugh and Dr. Glock while also pursuing her teaching degree at Texas A&I. She subsequently taught grade school classes and eventually retired from the Riviera, Texas school system. The last ten years of her life were spent at Portland, Texas. Ruth was a generous and caring soul and was a member of the Eastern Star.
She did, however, have a stubborn streak as evidenced by her middle name of Missouri (seldom used by her - she thought that name reminded everyone of a Missouri mule). Hopefully, disclosing this information won’t result in a lightning strike from Heaven. We are all glad she is in a new and wonderful place, but she will be missed. Her memory will live on.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.W. Marshall; sister, Kate Dover; two brothers, Pat and Jack Williams; son, Wesley Thompson; and daughter, Dorothy Patterson.
Mrs. Marshall is survived by one daughter, Betty (Toy) Fowler of Portland; daughter-in-law, Virginia Thompson of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Susie (Russ), Jack (Kara), John (Susie), Gene, Cherri (Don), Toy (Jimmy), Lyssa (Perry) and Walt (Rosie); and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 after 1:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel, Kingsville. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
