On December 8, 2012, Scott Walton Gibson, "Scotty"made his final journey to meet his Beloved Maker. He was born August 26, 1962 in Kingsville, Texas.Understood by a few, loved by many, Scotty was a uniquely self-made individual. He was so proud to be a Texan and a cowboy. He grew up riding horses, and so loved his boots and chaps, he often slept in them. Having anintense understanding of nature, he loved to be dropped off in rough, mountainous terrains, to enjoy the challenge of surviving off the land. Scotty saw himself as an outlaw of sorts. He took amusement in swimming across the Rio Grande and back, just to get away with it. He was very fluent in Spanish, and sang Tejano and Norteno classics while accompanying himself on accordion, guitar, and harmonica. Scott had little use for money, but when he had any, he would go to downtown San Antonio, and other areas, handing out bills to the homeless. He had a deep compassion for the needy and suffering, and expressed it in the most grounded and definitiveacts of kindness. Family survivors include parents Hoot and Vonnie Gibson of Kingsville, Texas, sisters Laurie and Sally Gibson of Bandera, Deedee Kedzie and husband Jay of The Woodlands, nieces Becky Odell of Bandera, Robin Swanson of Lone Grove, Oklahoma, Erin Kedzie of The Woodlands, and nephew Drew Kedzie of The Woodlands. Scott dearly loved hisnumerous aunts, uncles, cousins, grand-nieces, nephews, and newly-found step brother, sister and others. He leaves a host of friends who embraced him as family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jo Louise Gibson. A singer, songwriter, artist, a "road less traveled" philosopher and humorist, Scotty's life will be celebrated Saturday, December 15, at10:30 a.m. in Kingsville, Texas at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Requesting cremation, his ashes will be scattered in South Texas, and inhis second homeBandera, on a future date to be announced.
