

Wilmer Robert Roewe, age 88, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Kingsville. He was born on May 6, 1922 in Westhoff, Texas in DeWitt County. His parents were Robert Henry Roewe and Isabel Seidel Roewe. When he was a year and a half old, his dad and uncle purchased farmland and moved to just southwest of Driscoll. He attended school there but finished his last two years at Bishop High School and graduated in 1939.
Following graduation, he attended Texas A&I College. His college was briefly interrupted by volunteering with a group from college to go into the service during World War II. Just prior to going into the service, he married his high school sweetheart - Lucille Boggan. He completed his schooling after returning and graduated in 1943 with a B.B.A. degree.
After graduating from college, he and his wife moved to Corpus Christi where he was employed for ten years by “The Chicago Corporation” - an oil and gas company. For several years, he worked in a field office of the company and then transferred to the main office on Leopard Street in Corpus Christi working in accounting in the Property Department. After six years they purchased a farm in the Bishop area and moved to the home located on it. After purchasing more land he went into farming full time.
Wilmer served on several boards of directors for several organizations - Nueces Electric Coop for nearly twenty years and Driscoll Coop Gin for about six years. He was also a volunteer to help various farm and community organizations and was a member of The Church of Christ of Bishop.
In January of 1993 Wilmer’s wife of nearly 50 years passed away.
He leaves behind his son, Ronald W. (Sharon) Roewe of Bishop; grandson, Robert L. Roewe of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughter, Kathy Roewe (Richard) Hoyle of Bishop; great-granddaughter, Cassidy Shea Hoyle, and great-grandson, Heston Wayne Hoyle, both of Bishop; sister, Jynice Roewe (Paul) Harris of San Jose, California; nephews; nieces; cousins; wife’s sister and her sisters' families; friends and neighbors.
Public visitation will take place at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, Kingsville, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends that evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Clif Abshier officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop at Restland Cemetery.
