Mom was born in Edmonton, AB in 1931, and grew up and received her education at Forest Edge Country School in the Kipling area. She met Steve, her forever love, and they were married in 1955, starting their family shortly thereafter. Mom worked hard to raise and support her family the best she could and doing so on her own, while her husband travelled for work. She enjoyed working alongside Steve when he was home on weekends and when he finally retired, they took over the family farm. This was not an easy life working on the farm raising cattle, but they were a team and did enjoy it. Mom had a love for nature, enjoying bird watching and loved the company of her many cats over the years. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening as well as baking and canning for the family. A favorite pastime of hers was knitting anything for anyone. Mom was a great cook and served the community working in the local hotel in Kipling for years. Mom and Dad, with the help of their children, worked together to build various homes in Kipling which still stand today.
Mom was a quiet woman of great strength with compassion for others. Her family near and far were deeply loved by her. She was an only child who walked through life with great courage and determination. Her family was most important even though she didn’t get to see many of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very often due to distance but they all have been highly treasured and loved very much.
She saw and experienced many struggles in life like the dirty 30’s, war, COVID, good times and bad. She trusted God to get her through. Through these experiences, she raised her children with love and taught them to be good and principled people, to be respectful and love one another. She was proud of all of them and she did the best she could!
Mom……God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come with me”. With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and fade away, although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best.
The family wishes to specially thank the following: Staff of 3D and 4A at the Pasqua Hospital for their compassionate care; to Nancy Grant and the residents of Westminster Care Home (mom’s most recent residence) who warmly welcomed her to the fold recently; to Pastor Shauna Archer at Living Hope Alliance Church and many other friends and family who raised mom up in prayer and love as she got ready to meet Jesus.
Mom, you are deeply cherished and forever loved!
